New HSE Statistics Released: Construction Safety in Focus
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published its annual industry-specific health and safety statistics report for Great Britain.
In summary, these include:
- 124 workers died in work-related incidents in 2024/25, of which 35 were in construction, compared to the average of 40 over the five-year period 2020/21 to 2024/25.
- The most common cause of fatal injuries were falls from height (53%).
- 3.8% of construction workers (79,000 new or long-standing cases across the industry) reported ill health, compared to 4.2% across all industries.
Of this particular statistic, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) contribute to 53% of all cases, lung disorders affect around 5,000 workers, both higher than the average, but workers reporting stress, depression, or anxiety is lower than the average.
While these numbers show some improvement, every incident is one too many. As industry leaders, we must remain vigilant in protecting our workforce.
