HSE publishes annual work-related ill health and injury statistics
The HSE has published statistics that cover work-related ill health, non-fatal workplace injuries and enforcement action taken by HSE, in the 2023/24 period. Key figures include: 1.7 million workers suffering from a work-related illness, around half – 776,000 – of which were stress, depression or anxiety (2022/2023 was 1.8 million). BSG reports 41% drop in Welfare breaches on construction sites
The Building Safety Group (BSG) has reported a 41% drop in welfare breaches recorded on construction sites. The figure was calculated using the data collected from 7,000 BSG site inspections which compared Q2 with Q3 this year. Onsite health MoTs for builders announced
Westminster is hoping that thousands of builders will take part in a potentially life-saving health-check programme. The so-called health MoT, which already exists for those aged over 40 and who are not already known to be suffering from cardiovascular conditions, involves weighing and measuring participants, as well as testing their blood pressure and cholesterol level.

HSE to draft new guidelines around engineered stone
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is drafting new guidelines for tradesmen working with engineered stone after report shows increased risk to silicosis.
