HSE Blitz

HSE’s inspectors across Great Britain will shortly begin targeting construction firms to check that their health standards are up to scratch. The main focus will be on lifting and moving heavy objects on construction sites in a two-month safety blitz starting next week. Around 1,000 site visits will take place in October and November checking how workers are moving heavy or bulky materials.

HSE safety alert: Mast climbing work platforms (MCWPS): Failure to detect mechanical failure in drive units

The alert requires those involved in MCWP activities to check that MCWPs comply with Regulation 4 of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, specifically, to ensure that undetected mechanical failure in drive units cannot lead to the uncontrolled fall of the platform. It includes advice on detection and prevention of potential failure
